THE BRIDE OF MONT BLANC

In a profound act of historical resurrection, modern day adventurer Elise Wortley straps on her 19th century hobnail boots and bonnet to celebrate history's forgotten women adventurers, whose absence from history continues to have knock-on effects today. Armed only with gear available to Henriette d'Angeville in 1838, Elise attempts to recreate the first female ascent of Mont Blanc - Europe's most iconic peak. In doing so, she explores her own relationship with the outdoors and how it's impacted a long battle with debilitating anxiety.

About TBOMB

Award winning film The Bride of Mont Blanc is a celebration of female empowerment in the worlds wildest spaces, but also a deeply intimate story about resilience and personal growth. At its heart, it's both a homage to the forgotten women who first carved a path into the mountains, and a reflection on how women still wrestle with equality in the outdoors today. Lise’s climb is not only a physical recreation of Henriette d’Angeville’s historic 1838 ascent, but also an insight into an intimate act of healing.

The Bride of Mont Blanc is about more than summiting a mountain. It's about confronting absence - of women in history books, of representation in mountain culture and of voices that have too often been sidelined.

'It had always been a dream of mine to make an entirely women created film. When I started this project I was new to the world of adventure, and very quickly noticed how women were missing from the narrative, not just throughout history, but still today. This included the films and programmes I was watching. Even if a woman was the main protagonist, there was nearly always an entirely male crew behind it. I realised I was only ever watching adventure through the eyes of men. It became an aim of mine to make sure I was always employing women where possible through this project, especially when it came to making this film.

This film is not just about highlighting overlooked women, but about making sure adventure is told from a nuanced perspective. I'm so proud of the brilliant women behind our beautiful film.'
